Letitia's Birthday

My very good friend, Letitia had her birthday on April 15th.  This is the card that I made for her.

How cute is that?  The stamps are from Lawn Fawn and called Chit Chat and Hello Sunshine.  There are matching dies to these stamps as well.  I also used the dies stitched hillside borders from Lawn Fawn to make the landscape.  The paper is from My Mind's Eye and it is called Home. Selena Birthday Card

My co-worker wanted a Selena card and matching refrigerator magnet.  I found the following picture on Pintrest. Did I mention that I LOVE Pintrest?!

Very nice artsy portrait of Selena, but my co-worker wanted it in a bright red not the orange color it is here.  I have no idea how to change things up on my computer to make her red - I use Picture Monkey and I couldn't find a way to do it.  That's okay though - I kicked it old school.  I printed it out on my computer on Papertrey Ink's Stamper's Select heavy white cardstock.  Then I painted over it with red acrylic paint.  I think it looks fabulous!  It definitely has an artsy vibe so I used the art deco corner notch for the magnet.

Now what to do for the card?  It is a beautiful graphic, but tough to work with because of the fly away hair.  I just smoothed her hair out by fussy cutting around her and I think it looks awesome.  Now this is a card for a man, but I was afraid to bling this bad boy out.  So I texted my co-worker and he told me the card is for a gay man with a stage name.  Okay, Hello!  If he has a stage name then we definitely need some bling on our birthday card for this boy! I painted her clothes bright red again and fixed some printing issues with black and white wash colors to make the picture look less pixelated.  What to bling though?  I created this background by cutting out rays of glitter cardstock.  Then I arranged them in a starburst behind her.  I am very happy with this card.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Birthday

A co-worker saw a card I made for another co-worker and decided that he wanted a card too.  I do so love that!  He wanted a Buffy the Vampire Slayer card.  I told him that I would probably have to print something off and work with that because I can't really stamp a Buffy.  A quick surf on Pintrest and I was able to find the following picture.

Pretty cool, right?  I was more into a cartoony type of picture than using a real picture - it just looks more artsy to me.  Less cutting and pasting and child-like, if you know what I mean.  I printed the picture out three times on my computer on the gorgeously heavy Stamper's Select white cardstock from Papertrey Ink.  No wimpy cardstock for me!  I fussy cut around Buffy and the stake and axe that she is holding.  I popped her up on stampin' dimensionals to make her more 3D-ish.  Then I cut out the banners.  I was disappointed that I had no light blue cardstock that matched those banners perfectly so I settled on Tempting Turquoise.  Using some Papertrey Ink stamps I bent them to stamp Happy Birthday on the banners.  Then I took my markers and traced around the banners to help them blend in better.  The result is the card below.  Not a great picture because you can't really see that Buffy is popped up.  My co-worker loved it and that is what matters.  I took the extra Buffy I printed and glued her to a refrigerator magnet.  He loved that also.  I found rolls of magnet at Goodwill for $1.00 and they are 5" across by 5' long - what a steal!

Hippo Birthday!

I acquired this stamp at Goodwill.  I have no idea why I liked it or who makes it, but maybe I thought it was funny.  I tried out the swing card on my Silhouette Cameo and added her on.

A man card from body wash!?

I talked about "idea wandering" in a previous post.  That is what I call it when I go to stores and just wander looking for color combinations or card ideas.  This time my idea was right in my shower!  My husband uses this body wash.  What could be more manly than Old Spice?!  So I borrowed the color scheme and layout right off the bottle.

 I have been formulating this card in the back of my brain for some time now.  I have had finals to finish up my semester and have been otherwise busy.  I finally had the time to make my vision a reality (the card is a 5 X 7).  The colors are Pacific Point and Riding Hood Red.  The octagon is a Spellbinders die.  The background is Sanded and the ship is from the Open Sea from Stampin' Up.  As my brain is constantly churning I may go back and do another card with white embossed words to totally mimic the Old Spice bottle.  I'd say I need a hobby, but it's too late now!  Have a fabulous day - Heidi.

Computer cards

I needed two birthday cards.  One was Spiderman and the other Spongebob.  I do not have Cricut cartridges or stamps to match so I decided to print some images from the Internet.

To match the colors of Patrick and Spongebob I used Lovely Lilac, Lemon Tart (Papertrey), Green Galore and Regal Rose.  Spiderman is Poppy Parade and Basic Black.  The stamp for both cards are from Happiest Birthday Wishes.  I hope the kids like them. - Heidi

Happy Meal Card

I am beginning to think I should rename my blog "The Ultimate Recycler."  I just look or touch something and it has to be made into a card or something else useful.  This is the Happy Meal box that my kids had their lunch in yesterday.  It is extremely colorful and the side graphic panel was perfect for making a card!

The base and Lacey Oval are in Pacific Point.  The ribbon, to hide the box crease, is Real Red 1/4" grosgrain.  The stamp is from Perfect Punches by Stampin' Up.  My husband chuckled when he saw it.  Some people see a box and I think outside the box, I guess. - Heidi

 

Butterflies for Letty

This is the card I made for my very best friend's birthday. The stamp is from Stampin' Up and the set is called Bring on the Cake. The card uses some awesome Graphic 45 paper, a recycled piece of cardboard from a McDonald's toy. It also uses the new Striped Butterfly 2-in-1 Edger Punch & the Butterfly Layering punch both from EK Success. Why yes, I am a tool freak! Letty should get this card tomorrow in the mail so hopefully she doesn't this posting before then. - Heidi

Little Mermaid for Miley

The Ariel stamp is from Inkadinkado. Hobby Lobby had a bunch of Princess stamps on clearance this week and I bought Ariel for $3.02! My neighbor is going to be 5 years old on January 24th. I made her this card because she is a big Disney Princess fan. I am a huge Little Mermaid fan. The colors are Poppy Parade and Almost Amethyst. What fun I had with this color combination. The coloring was hard on my hand as it hasn't quite been 3 weeks since my carpal tunnel surgery. I think I did a fantastic job, considering! - Heidi

Some older stuff to finally put up!

First up is an attempt at a Christmas card! The jumping reindeer was a coaster from Hobby Lobby. The colors don't quite match any SU colors. I might have to use them as coasters because I wasn't crazy about this card! Wait a minute, what about ornaments? Hmmmm..

My attempt at an evil owl -ouch. This failed miserably - let's move on shall we?

Below is the invite Xavier got for his friend's 8th birthday party. Above is the card I made for him to give back to his friend for his birthday. Double embossed the back with the spider web folder. It looked awesome & watch out because here comes the Spider-Man!

We have Dish Network. This was a channel schedule from Dish Network that I cleverly turned into a birthday card. Phineas and Ferb are actually kind of funny. Enjoy the mish mosh and have a great night. - Heidi

Zoo Review for You!

The above card is based on another card I saw on Splitcoast. The creator used Wisteria Wonder and I used Pool Party and Island Indigo. The stamps sets are also from Stampin' Up and are called Zoo Review and Petite Pairs.

The penguin card also uses Zoo Review and Petite Pairs. I embossed the white cardstock with a striped embossing folder from SU. Then I brayered it with Basic Black. What a mess! My fingerprints are everywhere. The Basic Black didn't absorb nicely into the cardstock. I drew on the big scalloped circle with a white gel pen to get the design. This card could look so much better, but it'll have to do for now! - Heidi
